No goals at Anderlecht
No goals at Anderlecht. The hosts had the finer chances, but Blauw-Zwart stood its ground, keeping the team from the capital at a distance in the table.
Michel Preud’homme opted for his standard line-up for the trip to Anderlecht, which meant Poulain made his return in defense, while in midfield both Vanaken and birthday boy Simons reclaimed their place. Vormer manned the right wing, with Limbombe his mirror image in support of Jelle Vossen. No José Izquierdo, he was out ill.
Both teams took a flying start, without creating any clear chances. A Kara heading opportunity was the home team's first threat, while Club failed to make the most of a 4vs3 situation a bit later. The first real opportunity came halfway through the first half, as Dendoncker prolonged Tielemans' free kick over.
Both Anderlecht and Club were cautious, and the game remained very closed. Five minutes before the break, however, Dendoncker's header turned out to be the best chance in the first half, but Butelle rattled it out of his cage. A bit later, Chipciu saw his shot blocked, and Denswil, through on goal was called to a halt in the knick of time.
The game was still shut after the break, but more chances started coming. Butelle was called into action early on saving Hanni's shot, while Club also had slight chances through Limbombe (shot blocked), and Vormer (saved by Boeckx).
The home team geared up after an hour's play, and Club was feeling the pressure. Hanni's attempt ended up in the side netting, while Butelle saved shots by Chipciu and Hanni, and saw Tielemans' blast and Dendoncker's deviation go over. Thé chance came with twenty minutes on the clock: Cools lost possession, offering Chipciu a chance to go at Butelle alone, but the Rumanian fired the ball over.
Bringing on Refaelov and Wesley, Michel Preud’homme helped Club to gain more grip. Refaelov threatened, but his shot went wide. The closing minutes of the game were not for the faint-hearted. Club was unable to create any further scoring opportunities, and went through a tight hole twice: Butelle saved Kara's header, and on the break Dendoncker aimed wide of target. A goalless draw, leaving Zulte Waregem in the saddle at the top of the league.
