Club beats Eupen 1-4

Club Brugge has won its last away game of the calendar year, beating Eupen 1-4. Despite the goal down early in the game, Club steamed on with two goals by Vormer and a Blondelle own-goal, all in the first half. Just after the break, Izquierdo took away all doubts with Club's fourth.

Club's Starting XI underwent one change: Stefano Denswil – back from suspension – came on for Bjorn Engels. Lior Refaelov and José Izquierdo were fit again, and played in support of deep forward Jelle Vossen.

The lesson taught by the Cup elimination just a couple of weeks ago struck home, but only after Eupen opened the score once again. Taulemesse's effort went just wide, but when Sylla got hold of the ball inside the box and slipped across the Club defense, his final touch to the ball made it 1-0 to the hosts. Club wasn't taken aback, however: Vossen teed up Vormer, and his low shot flew into the bottom right hand corner.

Club was now steaming ahead, with attacking waves drowning the Eupen defense. Izquierdo saw his shot saved by Niasse, but halfway through the first half, Blondelle had a touch to van Rhijn's tricky free kick, and 1-2 it was. Club kept piling on the pressure, and with five minutes to go added a third: a great passing movement between Izquierdo, Vanaken and Refaelov ended up with the latter, who saw his shot saved by Niasse. Refaelov regained possession, and pulled back to Vormer, whose deflected shot put Club in a comfortable 1-3 lead. It was not over yet; Hans Vanaken's header deserved better than to hit the crossbar.

After the break, Eupen tried to close the gap straight on, but Club's fourth after ten minutes sealed the deal for the visitors. Refaelov's blocked shot ended up with Vossen, whose low cross found Izquierdo in the middle, tucking in the 1-4.

Game over, it seemed, but the home team tried to inch closer anyway. Onyekuru's shot took a deflection and went over, while Butelle had a fabulous save in store to deny Diallo's header. Club also had its chances by the end of the game to make it 1-5: Izquierdo came just too late to tap in Vossen's cross, Vormer was blocked just in time, and Niasse pawed away van Rhijn's free kick. On the other side of the pitch, a Luis Garcia free kick sailed over.

Preud’homme brought in Bolingoli, Claudemir and Storm, but this did not affect the way the game went. Claudemir's shot went wide, and Niasse produced fine saves to deny Bolingoli and Cools. 1-4 it was, keeping Club Brugge at the top of the table.
