1-1 between Club and Anderlecht
A 1-1 draw for Club Brugge against Anderlecht. Sofiane Hanni's early free kick goal was cancelled out by Ruud Vormer, also from free kick. After the break, Horvath denied Tielemans from the spot. The draw means that four points still divide the two teams at the top of the table.
No changes to the team that had beaten Charleroi last weekend. This meant that Ethan Horvath and Ahmed Touba held on to their place in the Starting XI. A five star performance provedJosé Izquierdo's recent form, and against the current leaders, he seemed ready for another brill game. Five minutes played, the Golden Shoe cut inside and aimed for the first post, but missed target by one meter.
Anderlecht proved more efficent, scoring from their very first attempt on goal. A free kick was taken by Sofiane Hanni, firing the ball under the wall, and past a surprised Horvath. 0-1 down, Club maintained its attacking intentions, and surged forward with swift football, trying to break down the double wall put up by the visitors. To the audience's despair, however, the wing crosses weren't up to par, and real chances did not follow.
The high pressure by the hosts paid off with ten minutes to go in the first half. A wonderful free kick by Ruud Vormer curled its way past Boeckx, making it a very well-deserved 1-1. Moments later, Izquierdo threatened again, but the Columbian's shot missed target.
Club took on the second half with an excruciating pace. Chances followed for Rotariu and Vanaken, but both players were unable to frame their attempts. The visitors also left their organisation, producing threats by Hanni and Teodorczyk, just on. A focused Ethan Horvath saved the day, however. Another chance for Club went wide, as Vormer's shot hobbled past.
Jan Breydel rocked to its foundations as Acheampong started an impressive rush only to be brought down by Engels within the box. Penalty for Anderlecht, and an excellent chance for Tielemans to fire the visitors towards the league title, but Horvath proved level-headed, savint the spot kick. Straight after that, Izquierdo tried his luck again, but his shot went high over.
The tension of the game was still very tangible, and the result could have gone either way. The only real threat was for Ahmed Touba, but the left back saw his hard shot whizz past. 1-1 it was, keeping the four point gap intact.
