Club Brugge and Ivan Leko part ways
Club Brugge and Ivan Leko have mutually agreed to part ways. Leko (41) was at the helm since 2017 and won the championship in his debut season with Club Brugge. This year he finished second. The contract of Ivan ended at the end of this season.
Bart Verhaeghe, chairman
"Many eyebrowsed were raised two years ago, when we appointed Ivan Leko as the successor of Michel Preud'homme. But both Vincent Mannaert and I were confident and he did not disappoint. We can look back to two wonderful seasons where we won the championship and finished second. It's our fifth consecutive year that we are either first or second in the league, which proves we are a stable and competetive club at the moment. We wish Ivan all the best with the rest of his career."
"I have to thank Club Brugge, Vincent and Bart for the chance they've given me. As a young and relatively unexperienced coach I was given the privilege to coach a team like Club Brugge. I can only feel pride. I'm proud of what we have accomplished with the players, staff, fans and board in the past two years. I wish Club all the best in the coming seasons. Thank you."
Apart from Ivan's contract not being extended, the same counts for the rest of the staff: T2 Rudi Cossey, T3 Edward Still, goalkeeping coach Tomislav Rogic and video analyst Nicolas Still. All joined Club together with Ivan. We thank them and wish them well.
