Aston Villa falters at Tottenham Stadium (4-1)

UEFA Champions League

Match Day 4 in the Champions League is in clear view now. Club will be taking on English Aston Villa. The team from Birmingham has had some fine league results in the past couple of seasons, and has been awarded with a ticket for the biggest European stage, and this for the first time since 1983, the year after it even won Europacup I. Last weekend, the team had a dress rehearsal against Tottenham on the road.

Last weekend saw some hefty clashes in the Premier League, among them Tottenham - Aston Villa. Prior to the game, the team from London camped in 8th place, five points behind number 6 Aston Villa. Tottenham Hotspur Stadium saw a fiery home side taking the initiative, competing with Villa's Belgian duo in midfield Tielemans and Onana. 30 minutes in, Villa even took the lead after a blast from Onana went off the goalie and the post into corner kick. The hosts were unable to clear the ball and Rogers came with the tap in to make it 0-1 halfway.

The break had clearly revived the home side's spirits, and just four minutes later, Johnson drew level for Tottenham. Aston Villa retained its organisation, but with fifteen minutes on the clock, Dominic Solanke's brace put a two goal margin between the two sides, and in the final minute of the game, Maddison made it 4-1 from free kick. Aston Villa misses out on the chance to climb to the top 3, and remains in sixth place.

Champions League

Things are looking much brighter in the Champions League for Aston Villa, claiming three wins from three games. Wins that put the team past Bayern Munich, Young Boys and Bologna, and that went without conceding a goal. It will be a confident English side making its way to Bruges on Wednesday. Kick-off will be at 18h45 at Jan Breydel. See you then?
