Club falls to a 1-0 defeat at Kortrijk

Club Brugge were unable to build on last week's victory against Standard. Blauw-Zwart went down 1-0 at KV Kortrijk, suffering their seventh defeat of the season. Kadri scored the only goal of the game after half an hour play. Club had some excellent chances through Rits, Buchanan, Vanaken and Yaremchuk, among others, but failed to score.

Compared to last week's game against Standard, Club's starting line-up underwent one change: the injured Mata was replaced by Denis Odoi. In other words Rik De Mil kept his trust in 18-year-old Jorne Spileers in the heart of the defence.

Club started very eagerly and immediately grabbed Kortrijk by the scruff. For instance, Jutglà just failed to head in a deflected shot by Buchanan. Immediately afterwards, Lang teed up Mats Rits after a good interception, but the midfielder's aim was off.

The home side responded with some tame attempts from Avenatti. Mignolet was equal to it twice, while a deflected effort sailed wide. At the other end, Meijer latched onto a through ball by Lang, but goalkeeper Vandenberghe had rushed out to collect.

Moments later, things seemed to work out when Jutglà was able to cash in on a pass-back from Odoi, but the goal was disallowed because of an earlier pull by Odoi on Loncar.

It was not Club that broke the deadlock, but Kortrijk. Kadri saw his first effort blocked, but later the Algerian managed to beat Mignolet by curling the ball neatly into the far corner.

Club reacted swiftly. Lang picked out Buchanan on the other wing, but the Canadian's shot was parried away by Vandenberghe. A few minutes later Odoi's shot was blocked by a defender. On the stroke of half-time Meijer found Vanaken in front of goal, but the ball bumped up the moment the captain wanted to hit it.

After the break, Blauw-Zwart immediately pinned Kortrijk down in search of the equalizer, but it was difficult to on the heavy and soggy pitch. Jutglà was unable to capitalise on a Buchanan cross, while Silva just managed to keep out the Spaniard. Soon after, another Buchanan cross was just cleared by Watanabe.

With just under thirty minutes on the clock, Rik De Mil brought on Roman Yaremchuk on and the Ukraine international almost immediately maden an impact. Lang's low cross in front of goal fell into his path, but he sidefooted it just wide. Twenty minutes before the end De Mil also brought on Onyedika and Talbi. For the latter, the 17-year-old winger, it was his debut for Blauw-Zwart.

Rits tried his luck once again by cutting inside, but his shot took a deflection on a defender before the ball flew over the crossbar.

In the final minutes Rik De Mil gave the nod to Romeo Vermant, who made his debut for the club as well. But it wasn't Club that pushed for a goal, it were the hosts that came closest to a second goal via De Neve and Messaoudi.

Until stoppage time when Odoi headed in Lang's free-kick, but the goal was disallowed because of a prior push by the defender. The last chance was for Sylla, but his header went wide.
