Club – KV Kortrijk: Club facts

Jupiler Pro League

The previous game a mere 72 hours behind us, Club Brugge will be taking on KV Kortrijk at home. Find out all there is to know in our Club Facts.

The fixture

For the 70th time in history, Club and KV Kortrijk will be crossing swords in the Belgium top flight. The final two encounters both ended in a 1-0 win for Kortrijk; last October, it earned them their second victory of the season thanks to a goal by their top scorer Isaak Davies. Much better stats for FCB at Jan Breydel: in 34 earlier games in Bruges, KVK never managed to come out on top, and in the past eleven years, Club always claimed the full loot.

A draw or a win tonight means Club has been unbowed for 15 games on a string, the last defeat dating back to 5 November. Last weekend's win at Charleroi helped Club to the third spot in the table.

Another productive night for Igor Thiago at Mambourg: two goals brings his tally to 15 so far, just one behind current top scorer Kévin Denkey (Cercle Bruges). With 25 goals across all competitions for Club, Thiago is only outdone in Europe by Kylian Mbappé (28) and Harry Kane (27).

KV Kortrijk may well be one of his favourite opponents, putting Hans Vanaken on the score line six times so far, just one behind Club legends Foeke Booy and Jan Ceulemans.

Setting up six goals so far, Philip Zinckernagel is still Club's assist king. A fifth booking this season would exclude Hugo Vetlesen from next weekend's clash at Antwerp.

The opponent

The Kerels are going through a horrendous season so far, and even a neat 4 out of 6  in the last two league games cannot keep the team from eloping last place. Last weekend, the clash at the bottom of the table with OH Leuven ended in a goalless draw. No Felipe Avenatti for Kortrijk tonight, having conceded a fifth booking over the weekend. The Uruguayan striker was the man behind the sole goal in the win at Standard de Liège just a few weeks ago.

The track record away from home is where Kortrijk stumbles this season. The win at Standard was the only away win so far, and the team has only claimed five points in 11 games so far. The team is only outdone by Club's previous opponent, Charleroi, in this respect.

Milestones

  • Brandon Mechele is up for a 410th game at Club.
  • For Ferran Jutglà, this might be the 70th time he is putting on the Club colours.
  • Maxim De Cuyper might be featuring a 40th time.
  • Éder Balanta and Andreas Skov Olsen are in for the 90th and 60th league game at Club Brugge.

The man in black

Mr. Jonathan Lardot will be handling the whistle tonight, backed by his linesmen Mr. Florian Lemaire and Mr. Quentin Blaise, with fourth official Mr. Jan Boterberg.  Manning VAR will be Mr. Simon Bourdeaud’hui, Mrs. Ella De Vriese and Mr. Jasper Vitse.

Mr. Jonathan Lardot has been in charge of two earlier Club home games, against KAA Gent and against KRC Genk. The derby will be a first for the Liège ref, celebrating his 40th birthday on Wednesday.
