Club NXT U23 played a strong game against SK Deinze and had as much as 67% possession, but an own goal in the second half won the game for the visitors. In the last minute, goalkeeper Miras prevented Shion Homma from scoring the deserved equaliser.
NXT captain Et-Taïbi had picked up a slight injury and started on the bench. Jano Willems replaced him in the centre of defense. Deinze started the game strongest, and the first chance was for the visitors: Koné couldn't get his shot on target. After a corner Quintero did find the target, but his header hit the crossbar. Club NXT U23 withstood Deinze's pressure and started taking control of the game after 15 minutes. Captain Seys reached the back line and brought the ball in front of goal, but Liam De Smet wasn't able to get the finish. Homma's first attempt went just wide, his second was saved brilliantly by Miras.
Despite the home team's pressure, it had to be alert for Deinze's dangerous counter attacks. Former Club player Jellert Van Landschoot placed the ball wide from close range. Just before half-time, Homma prevented the opening goal by blocking De Belder's volley. Half-time score: 0-0.
At the start of the second half Kehrer replaced De Belder, who was slightly injured. Just like in the first half, the first chance was for Deinze's Koné, but again he couldn't find the target. Also Club NXT U23 created some chances. The hard-working Yameogo passed the ball through to Lenn De Smet, who found Homma. Unfortunately, the Japanese fired his shot high over the empty goal. A few minutes later Granados went for his chance, but his shot swerved wide.
