This afternoon Charleroi were guests at Basecamp for a practice match during the last international break of this year. Club was able to distance themselves from the Zebras in the second half and won the match 2-0 after goals from Nielsen and Campbell.
First half
Charleroi got off to the best start. After less than five minutes of play, Club could breathe a sigh of relief. De Roeve played a ball back too short to goalkeeper Jackers. Stulic was well in between, went around Jackers but couldn't decide on goal, his effort went narrowly wide. Not much later the men of ex-Brugge coach Rik De Mil cobbled together a good attack on the left side. Heymans could decide but couldn't frame his shot.
After fifteen minutes of play, Club could be dangerous for the first time, and it resulted in the first corner of the game. It yielded nothing and Charleroi could break out dangerously, but played it badly. Club did grow into the game. Nielsen was very industrious and got on the counter after 20 minutes after a fine ball from Vanaken. He rounded a man, but could not frame his shot. On the half-hour Vanaken again found Nielsen in the penalty area with a crafty ball, but the Dane pushed the leather past the second post.
We saw a lot of midfield play and good defensive organizations on both sides. A few distance shots and mistakes were a logical consequence of that. Just before halftime Club was able to combine quickly on the right. Skóraś put himself through well and found Talbi, his forty-five found Nielsen, but the ball disappeared into the side netting. Halftime was blown at 0-0.
