Club wins practice match from Charleroi

This afternoon Charleroi were guests at Basecamp for a practice match during the last international break of this year. Club was able to distance themselves from the Zebras in the second half and won the match 2-0 after goals from Nielsen and Campbell.

First half

Charleroi got off to the best start. After less than five minutes of play, Club could breathe a sigh of relief. De Roeve played a ball back too short to goalkeeper Jackers. Stulic was well in between, went around Jackers but couldn't decide on goal, his effort went narrowly wide. Not much later the men of ex-Brugge coach Rik De Mil cobbled together a good attack on the left side. Heymans could decide but couldn't frame his shot.

After fifteen minutes of play, Club could be dangerous for the first time, and it resulted in the first corner of the game. It yielded nothing and Charleroi could break out dangerously, but played it badly. Club did grow into the game. Nielsen was very industrious and got on the counter after 20 minutes after a fine ball from Vanaken. He rounded a man, but could not frame his shot. On the half-hour Vanaken again found Nielsen in the penalty area with a crafty ball, but the Dane pushed the leather past the second post.

We saw a lot of midfield play and good defensive organizations on both sides. A few distance shots and mistakes were a logical consequence of that. Just before halftime Club was able to combine quickly on the right. Skóraś put himself through well and found Talbi, his forty-five found Nielsen, but the ball disappeared into the side netting. Halftime was blown at 0-0.

Second half

Many substitutions at Charleroi, one at Club after halftime. Lynnt Audoor came to replace Brandon Mechele. The first chance in the second half was again for Charleroi. Jackers played the ball in poorly and the Carolos were able to advance, the shot eventually going over.

Afterwards, Club took over. Jutglà met the goalkeeper, Vanaken kicked a free kick into the side netting and Talbi saw his shot almost end up in goal via a Black-White leg. The pressure increased and eventually the Walloon defense cracked. De Roeve pushed forward well, his cross deflected and fell against the far post, Nielsen had but to push in. 1-0 after 65 minutes.

It remained watchful for Charleroi's counters though. Titraoui was free to strike in the box after a quick attack on the right. His effort whizzed over the crossbar. Club got away well and regained command. The moment also for coach Hayen to bring in fresh forces. Wylin, Campbell and Lenn De Smet came to replace Vanaken, Talbi and De Roeve.

And the substitutes made an impact. Audoor sent Jutglà into the lane, his cross for Campbell seemed too far, but the South African was quick to the ball and kicked in a time high into the short corner. Nice finish from the Club NXT player. 2-0 after 75 minutes.

The last quarter of an hour Charleroi still tried to push, but in vain. The defense, with a strong Romero, held firm and so Club wins the practice match 2-0. After the weekend, preparation will start towards the home game against STVV.
