Former player Jan Sørensen (68) passed away

With great sadness, Club Brugge learned of the death of former left winger Jan Sørensen at the age 68. Jan played six seasons at FCB and was one of our key players during the successful Ernst Happel era. He played 187 games for Club and scored 61 goals. He was, for instance, in the starting line-up for the 1978 European Cup final (the predecessor of the Champions League) against Liverpool, which we lost 1-0.

Sørensen's record include two titles at Club Brugge. After leaving Jan Breydel in 1983, he still played for FC Twente, Feyenoord (1985-1986), Excelsior Rotterdam (1986-1987), Ajax (1987) and Portimonense (1987-1989), where he then became manager for a short period of time. Sørensen holds 11 caps for the Danish national team. Teammates in his Bruges' period were, among others: late Birger Jensen, Fons Bastijns and Edi Krieger, and also Georges Leekens, Raoul Lambert, René Vandereycken and Julien Cools. The blond winger had been struggling with health issues for a while already. We send our deepest condolences to his family and friends.
