Coming on for Hugo Vetlesen in the second half, Philip Zinckernagel earned his first minutes at his new team. The welcome by the home fans clearly delighted the Danish midfielder.
“It was a good game to come on, particularly with such a lead at half time. My first days here went great, I received a hearty welcome. Now it's up to me to start building in the next days and weeks, to gain some rhythm and find those automatisms quickly.”
When asked what his favourite position is, Zinckernagel was clear. “I do not really mind; I was a 10 today, but I'm also happy to play on the wings, it's up to the coach to decide. This team harbours a lot of quality, and competition is teeming. We all have to show what we've got game after game; that's a challenge we should all be facing.”
Zinckernagel addressed his transfer to Club. "When a team the likes of Club Brugge comes calling, you just listen, they're still the biggest team in the country. We first started talking some two months ago, and Club quickly started pushing through. A return to Belgium is not a step backwards for me, as I can compete to win prizes here and play in Europe. I take that any day over a spot in a mid-table team in Germany or Spain.” (MV)
