Ronny Deila: "We should create more than we did today"

Jupiler Pro League

After the scoreless draw against KV Mechelen, coach Deila was somewhat disappointed with his team's performance.

"I think the first half was just not good enough," started the coach his analysis. "Especially offensively, we had too many players who were playing too wide and who were not participating enough in the game itself to be able to switch to the middle of the pitch. We played too simplistic instead of challenging them more and we created too little. We controlled the match and I don't think they created a lot of chances either. In the last 25 minutes of the game, partly due to substitutions, we were able to create more chances. However, too few to take the three points home. We need to create more than we did today."
The defensive performance of Club was solid again. "That is indeed the positive thing today and we have to take that with us. One point is obviously more important than no points but we can do better than this. We need to put a bit more risk in our attacking play, as we did in the second half. Besides, the pressure in the first half was also a bit too little, i.e. half-half and that was a bit better in the second half. The attitude is good, so it's not about that. It's about positioning and daring to play more football through the centre." The Blues were also unlucky in finishing, including a goal disallowed for offside. "I haven't seen the footage yet but I was told it wasn't offside. If we can't distinguish offside anymore, we shouldn't have a VAR either," concluded a somewhat disappointed Ronny Deila. (TM)
