Smoking ban at Jan Breydel: more info

On January 1 2025, regulations with regard to the ban of smoking have come into force. The new rules also apply to publicly accessible places, such as Jan Breydel Stadium. The moment fans enter the Jan Breydel grounds, the smoking ban will apply. Club will be setting up smoking areas, and adapt internal signalisation to comply to the new rules.

Regulations on the smoking ban in publicly accessible places has been adapted, obliging football stadiums and other public open air areas to set up areas where smoking is allowed, and to ban any form of smoking (including tobacco products, herbs, electronic cigarettes and vaping).

The goal of this change is to protect fellow fans and Club colleagues from the dangers of secondhand smoking and to set a good example to children. To boot: sports and smoking just do not get along.

The smoking ban is of a permanent nature, which means the smoking areas also apply on non-match days.

Where are these areas located?

Past the admission control area, smoking will only be allowed in the designated smoking areas. Club Brugge will be setting up smoking areas, clearly indicated, with a view to hiding them from the main crowd. Smoking zones will be set up in the following locations:

  • South-East Corner
  • Next to Bar Breydel (North-West)
  • At the principal building (West)
  • South-West Corner

Each smoking zone will consist of a wooden construction with several ash trays.

Sanctioning

Not obliging to these regulations might lead to fines, ranging from 208 to 8,000 euro, for both smoker and organiser. The Belgian health department will be maintaining regular and unannounced controls.

We are counting on the cooperation of our entire Club family to mak sure this smoking ban will be respected.
