Simon Mignolet: “Draw leaves bitter aftertaste”

Jupiler Pro League

For the third time in a spin, Club has drawn 1-1 in the league. No clean sheet again for Simon Mignolet, not shy of a down to earth analysis after the game.

“A disappointing result", Club's goalie started out. "We played a decent game in offense in the first half, but we gave too much away in the back, causing instability throughout the team. The coach flipped some switches at half time, after which we took an early lead, and put far better pressure on our opponent so they couldn't create too many chances either. Not that we had those big opportunities to add a second, however. To boot, we were once again unlucky when they scored that equaliser, as Koita's shot got defleccted ever so slightly. The draw comes with a very bitter aftertaste.”

When presented with the fact that Club once again was unable to keep the hosts from scoring, Mignolet was clear: "I'm not thinking about those clean sheets too much, I just want to win games with Club. But at this point, we're claiming too many draws. With a bit more sturdiness, it would have been four wins in a row.” (MV)
